For birdwatching,
the best months are October through to March when a multitude
of species can be spotted in the area. However, April to September
is the best time to see the beautiful bee-eaters and rollers.

The saltlakes
have flamingoes all year round and are a fabulous place to
also see a variety of waders including spoonbills and avocets.
October to April
is also the best season for walking or simply relaxing
in the stunning surroundings. The Almeria region has an abundance
of activities to keep everyone happy from geologists to golfers,
film buffs to gastronomes, and all these are best enjoyed
out of the heat of high summer.
For the real
sun worshippers, the summer months of May to September
will be right up your street when temperatures can reach over
40°C (104°F).
Markets are
in abundance all year round and the spectacular city of Granada
is only 1.5 hours away by car. The world famous Alhambra
is definitely worth a visit but we wouldn't recommend fighting
the crowds during the summer months.
There are beaches in the region
to suit everyone's taste from the quiet and secluded hideaways
near Vera to the family fun and nightlife of Mojacar. All
are only a scenic drive away. Scuba-diving and snorkelling
are offered locally as are boat trips and sea-fishing and
caving expeditions.
The Sierra Nevada mountain range
is only 2 hours away and the Rough Guide to Spain claims the
Almeria is the only place in Europe where you can ski
and swim in the sea on the same day - definitely worth
a go!
There are a huge variety of
walks to be tackled during the coolers months but for
those who enjoy two-wheeled transport, cycling is an
exhilarating activity on the winding mountain roads and there
is also a motorcycle racing circuit only 15 minutes
up the road.
